Like most yogis, I was initially drawn to yoga for the physical benefits. I started practicing hot yoga in 2011 as a way to warm up, detoxify and strengthen my body during the cold winter months. Soon after beginning my yoga journey I became captivated by the practice and how it creates space not only in the body, but in the mind. Attending yoga class was therapeutic. It was that sliver of light in my chaotic head that allowed me to surrender and quiet the constant dialogue within myself. Coming back to my mat created this sensation of returning home. It was a safe place that held me, and allowed space for transformation and healing. I knew that if I continued to show up on my mat, the power of practice would be life altering.
I continued to dive deeper into the study of yoga, attending classes religiously, taking workshops, and travelling for retreats. I was driven by the thirst to learn more about the physical, energetic and spiritual bodies, and the ancient teachings of different yoga lineages and mythologies. All of this lead me to complete my first 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Nicaragua with my teachers Susie Newson, Kristine 'Piper' Doiron and Natalie Bishop, of Mocean Yoga.
Since completing the training in May of 2016, I have created many accessible ways to share the practice with my community. While living in Vancouver I catered to numerous corporate clients by bringing mindful practices to the workplace, offering yoga and guided meditation. During this time I also lead classes at the Dharma Temple and Distrikt Movement, these studios held space for me to ‘find my voice’ and helped shaped me into the teacher I am today.
Currently, I am offering classes at The Hot Box Yoga and Solstice Yoga in Kelowna and I am loving being back in my home community. My classes are fine balance between strength and softness, full of clear alignment cues, intentional sequencing, and thoughtful adjustments. I always encourage breath to initialize movement, keep it light with my playful yet grounding energy, and find a way to weave the sacred lessons of life and yoga within my offering.
I am forever a student, always amazed by what we can learn about ourselves by getting quiet and moving in ways to further deepen our awareness of our own bodies, patterns, thoughts, and feelings.
